1959: Under the new name of Southern California College, the doors are open for the College to become
a Christ-centered liberal arts college.
1964: After earning regional accreditation and membership in the Western Association of Schools and Colleges – SCC becomes the first accredited Pentecostal Bible college in the world.
Southern California College launches its first graduate degree program: Master of Arts in Religion.
University status is achieved and SCC becomes Vanguard University of Southern California. The student body selects the Lion as the University mascot.
The women’s basketball team is the first Vanguard Lions athletic program to win a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division I Championship.
2015: Vanguard University is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as an “Hispanic-Serving Institution” — one of the first universities in Orange County to receive this recognition.
